Open call for Popkatu’s multi-arts program

Open call is aimed at professionals in visual arts, dance, theater, performing arts, circus, performance, poetry, sound art, experimental music, puppet theater or any other art form.

We are looking for surprising, delightful, vexing, captivating and personal works situated in the urban space. The interactivity of the works with the audience is considered an advantage. The work may have been previously made or performed elsewhere.

Popkatu festival and venues

Popkatu is a free admission multi-disciplinary art festival in Joensuu during 16–18 July 2025. The work can take place on one or more days during the festival.

We are looking for works for public city spaces and for indoor clubs to Kerubi and Näyttämö Theatre. You are also welcome to suggest another venue.

Reward

We will invoice the individual artist 350 €. If you want to receive a reward with a tax card, employer expenses will be deducted from the reward. The size of the working group does not matter, but due to the small budget we favor solo works and small working groups.

Curators

Popkatu board members dance artist Veera Snellman and musician-performer Onni Toikka act as curators of Popkatu’s multi-art program. In addition to the works selected through the open call, the multi-arts program consists of invited works. The open call selections are made by Snellman and Toikka together with the Popkatu board. The works are curated taking the programme as a whole into consideration. The program will be published during the spring.
